This activity builds kindergarten vocabulary for common classroom objects using a simple song and multimodal responses. Begin by watching the School Supplies Song with the class. Pause after each verse and show real items if available (pencil, sharpener, eraser, ruler, book, scissors, chair, desk, pen, bag). Use real objects or printable picture cards to support comprehension. Use the Think About It and Show It pages for spoken or drawn responses. High-quality answers to the open-ended prompts name a school supply using correct vocabulary and give a short, clear question or explanation. For example, “I learned pencil. How do you use a ruler?” or a drawing of a pencil labelled ‘pencil’. For the creative Show It task, strong responses show at least two supplies correctly labelled or demonstrated (drawing or video). Teachers can mark these open responses as correct/incorrect based on whether the student clearly recognises and names the supplies and follows the prompt.
