Student Instructions

1. Read the short passage aloud for fluency. 2. Answer the questions about the passage. 3. Complete two creative activities to show your understanding.

Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity uses a short, repetitive passage to build fluent reading, word recognition, and comprehension. Use the ReadingFluency recording to hear each student read and note phrasing, accuracy, and expression. No special materials are needed, though a picture of a zoo map or toy animals can be used for support. For the paragraph open-response, a high-quality answer will describe ideas from the passage (for example, who the speaker saw and what they did) and include at least two sentences. For the multimedia response, a strong submission will show a clear connection to the story (drawing or recording the zoo scene, naming Pam, Sam, the map, and the big cats). Teachers can mark these open-ended items as correct if the student shows clear understanding and uses details from the passage.
